Title: Head Cheerleading Coach

Abby Shillingburg was selected as the Head Cheerleading Coach at WVU Potomac State College in January 2020.

Upon arrival Shillingburg inherited a team transitioning from a period of furlough. She mentored the veteran cheerleaders through the remainder of their season as they supported the Catamount men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Shillingburg immediately set her sights on recruiting and preparing the squad for competitions during winter 2020, with a focus on stunting and gymnastics.

As a performer Shillingburg has experience in Cheer and Dance. She cheered for both school and competitive traveling teams starting at age five. As a dancer, she competed at a national level in both hip hop and ballet. Her career in both fields was ended by injury in 2012.

As an instructor Shillingburg has taught numerous classes in all styles. She is excited to enjoy cheerleading again with her athletes in a safe and engaging environment.

Most recently, Shillingburg has become a member of the Iron Mountain Roller Girls roller derby team based in Cumberland, MD.

A native of Keyser, WV, Shillingburg earned her master's degree in Learning Design and Technology from University of Maryland Global Campus in 2019. She also holds a degree in English Literature with a Biology minor from Frostburg State University.

Shillingburg resides in Keyser with her husband, Matthew, and their dogs, Loki and Daenerys. She is also a Professional Academic Advisor at Potomac State College. Her office is in Administration 108.
