Hello and welcome to Potomac State Baseball Player Diary for week 15. As classes start to wind down the season is at its peak as the Catamounts clinched the 2 seed of the Region 20 Tournament with two hard fought wins over Region 15 rival Monroe College. The Catamounts will host them again the Friday at 11am at Golden Park. It is our turn to host the region 20 tournament this year, this will be an awesome event and experience for this years team. If you plan on coming there will be games Friday at 11am and 30 minutes after, it is also $5 admission (details TBA)

In order to clinch the two seed the we had to win 2 out of 4 in the last series against Monroe College as that would put our region record the same and the tie breaker, which came down to overall record. Thanks to a 12 run first inning by Potomac State, led by a Braden Sloan 3 run home run, we were able to pull out a game 1 victory 13-11. Lance Hartley was credited with the win and Gavin Bennet came on in relief as both struck out 6 apiece. This win was followed by two tight games that we dropped, however game 4 the Catamounts were able to come out on top 9-3 to secure the two seed. Carson Boober started the game on the mound after playing left field in game one that day. Although tired he put on a great performance of pitching going 4.1 innings only allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out 4. Chris Harbert took the mound with bases loaded in the top of the 5th with 1 out and was able to strike out the next two batters out in order to keep the one run lead at the time. Harbert pitched the rest of the game and finished with 2.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, and 5 strike outs.

Although heavy rain was scheduled to come in before these games, we were still able to get them in, this was thanks to a brand-new field tarp that we got out Thursday evening after practice. It was not easy to get the old tarp out and the new one in however with everyone’s help (and Coach Little’s truck) we were able to do it, and this will be a huge addition to golden park and help with getting games in through bad weather.
