Goodwin comes up big for Potomac State

Keyser, WV- Caden Goodwin's complete game two-hitter secured a 2-1 win and a split for Potomac State with CCBC Catonsville Sunday afternoon at Golden Park.

Goodwin struck out six and allowed just a lobe run to improve to 2-2 on the season.

"It was an impressive effort," said PSC Head Coach Doug Little. "We obviously have not been swinging the bats very well, so our backs were against the wall- Goody really saved us."

Potomac State, which has underperformed most of the season, trailed 1-0 in the third inning. 

Catonsville's Noah Milum singled with one-out, then stole second base.  He moved to third after a pair of walks and came home on a wild pitch.

"He, (Goodwin) could have really imploded there, but he pitched out of it," said Little. "Again, it was a gutty effort that we really needed."

Potomac State took the blead in the bottom half of the third inning. 

Cam Cole led off the inning with a walk.  He quickly scored on a double to left field from Jimmy Sadler.  Sadler then stole third base and the scored on a ground out from Maddox Brooks.

Goodwin then had two consecutive innings of three-up, three down.

Matching Goodwin for the first three innings of the game was the Cardinal starter, Dylan Berndt who faced seventeen hitters and allowed just the two runs.

Catonsville threated in the seventh inning with a pair of baserunners, but Goodwin was able to get the final two outs with a strikeout and a groundout.

In the opener, Catonsville scored eight runs in the final two innings to pull away for a 9-2 win.

Cecil Barone was impressive on the mound, going the distance, striking out eight and allowing just two runs.

Nick Stergiuo paced the offensive attack for the Cardinals with a home run, a single and three runs batted in.

PSC received seventh inning RBI's from Jaylon Sanders and Jordan Canby.

Potomac State, now 12-13 will next face Garrett College on Tuesday in McHenry, MD.
