Potomac State Baseball 2024 Player Diary Week 4

Welcome to the 2024 Potomac State Baseball player diary homepage. This season, Sophomores Ben McDougal (Bridgeport High School / Bridgeport, WV), and Kris Sutton (Cobb County High School / Calhoun, GA) will take the lead on the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary.

Welcome back Catamount faithful and as always, thank you for tuning into this week’s Player Diary. This week started with an off day that sparked a great idea for a few members of the team. Cam Cole and Ben McDougal decide to take advantage of an off day and play a couple of holes at Polish Pines in Keyser, WV. Cam trying to break off the rust starts a little rough but quickly turns into a sharpshooter shooting straight down the fairway.

The forecast for the week called for a beautiful weekend and coach Little called the guys in for a tarp pool hoping we would be able to intrasquad on the field. While doing a tarp pull we show a little fit check from Aidan Vanrider showing he’s ready for tarp duty. With the weather not going as planned we had a backup plan and played two 9-inning inner squads. Coach Little said, “This was the first time in many years that we were able to be out on the field at this time of year.” Getting outside and seeing live arms is a bonus for college athletes in the northern part of the country for many reasons such as reading balls live off the bat or even for hitters seeing live arms. As the intrasquad went on a lot of good was seen over the weekend from all the players but as Coach Schafer says, “Never be satisfied with where you’re at there is always room for everyone to get better”. I must give a shoutout to Bryce Suters, Maddox Brooks, Jimmy Sadler, Dylan Bell, Kris Sutton, Ben McDougal, Aidan VanRider, Cam Cole, and Nik Rubendall who looked very impressive over this past weekend.

As for this week’s “Day in the Life” we bring to you a Keyser native Sammy Bradfield. Sammy is a commuter to Potomac State, being from Keyser he lives at home. Sammy’s day starts as normal as any other college student driving to his early morning class at 8:30 am which is Forestry and Natural Resources after his 8:30 he follows with his next class being Biology at 9:35. After Sam is done with class, he goes to the gym for a shoulder workout. Following his workout Sammy does a little cardio to help with his endurance. Working out is a big accomplishment the baseball guys have to do so we can all get bigger, faster, and stronger to stay healthy and win as many games as we can for the team and for each other. After the workout and cardio, there is a little cool-down time before our 4:00 practice. Practice comes around at 4:00 when we are on the turf field because of a random rain shower in the day that prevents us from being on the field, but that doesn’t stop the guys from getting extra work in. As practice ends Sammy goes home to eat dinner. Tacos for dinner sound amazing to Sammy but before eating Sammy has his dog try to make sure it is good. Lastly, Sammy arrives at the BPC for some extra swings after hours. As Coach Little and Coach Schafer say “You can never hit too much. There is always room for improvement.”

Thank you everyone for taking the time to catch up with us on this week’s Player Diary and
