Potomac State Baseball 2024 Player Diary Week 12

Welcome to the 2024 Potomac State Baseball player diary homepage. This season, Sophomores Ben McDougal (Bridgeport High School / Bridgeport, WV), and Kris Sutton (Cobb County High School / Calhoun, GA) will take the lead on the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary.

Welcome back Catamount faithful and as always, thank you for tuning into this week’s Player Diary. This week is another busy week for the guys having six games in one week.

The week starts with some of the guys starting their late-start classes. The class is a bowling class taught by Coach Little. With Will Thompson, Andrew Sokol, and Ben McDougal being in the class together they wanted to add a little challenge to the class and see who the best bowler was among the three of them. Game one gets played and Willy comes out on top followed by Andrew Sokol then falling in last is Ben. Since the guys had more time for the class, they started another game which was a close game at the end with Will at sixty points, Andrew at fifty-nine right at the end and Ben still falling behind once again. With a lot of pressure at the end will steps up and goes back-to-back strikes making him the winner of the game but a massive turn of events at the end and Ben finishes strong and takes second place.

To start our mid-week game, we played a talented Garrett College Lakers. Garrett being a nearby school the tensions were higher for the game because all the guys wanted Potomac State to be the best school around.  The first game was close with the guys winning 3-0 with Freshman pitcher Cooper Polcovich throwing another amazing outing going a complete game once again only allowing one hit. Both pitchers in the first game were good. Jimmy Saddler had the first Rbi on the day hitting a double followed by Maddux Brooks and Nik Rubendall. In the second game, the Lakers jumped out on top first, scoring four runs. The guys knew we had to battle and put together some quality at-bats to get back into the game, so the hitters had a quick meeting before they hit with Coach Little and Coach Schafer saying to let the pitcher come to us. The guys took that in mind and strung-out quality at-bats which put the catamounts back into the game which led to a sweep on the day.

Our second series of the week was the Route 220 rival Alleghany College of Maryland. Alleghany is a very talented team and a very well-coached team. The first game was a hitter’s game with Tanner Haskiell hitting two home runs, Gage Bibey and Maddux Brooks both with a home run in the first game. The second game follows with the guys falling short in game one the Catamounts are ready to take on game two looking for the split. Sophomore pitcher Caden Goodwin Comes out and throws a phenomenal game allowing one run in six innings followed by Maddux Brooks to close the game out In the seventh. All the hitters in the lineup pulled out some amazing at-bats giving the Catamounts four runs. Cam Cole, Kris Sutton, Nik Rubendall, and Bryce Suters all with an RBI that led the Catamounts to a win over Allegany.

Thank you for catching up on this week’s version of the player diary and I hope you enjoyed it. As always, make sure to watch the YouTube version as well and continue tuning in for the rest of the season.
