Potomac State opens season with a sweep over Garrett

Keyser, WV- A strong pitching performance from Potomac State College led to a pair of wins over Garrett College on Sunday afternoon at Golden Park by the scores of 8-1 and 8-0.

In the opener, Alexander Meckley struck out 13 Laker hitters in four innings of work.  He began the game with five straight punchouts before allowing a base hit to Michael Cubilete.  He then struck out the remaining eight batters he faced, (one of which reached on a wild pitch).

Tyler Henshaw picked up the win for PSC, as the sophomore southpaw worked the final three innings.  Henshaw added five Ks of his own and allowed just one unearned run.

With the game tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Jimmy Sadler and Dakota Miller hit back-to-back singles to open the frame.  After a sacrifice bunt from Brady Whitacre, Nik Rubendall doubled off the fence to make the score 2-0.

Morgan Little followed with an RBI single to score Rubendall to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Catamounts put the game away in the sixth.  Diego Barrett and Koice Quintanilla opened the frame with a pair of infield hits.  Sadler then hit a three-run home run to make the lead 6-0.

Miller and Little each hit a triple in the sixth and scored to make the lead 8-0.

Garrett broke up the shut out in the seventh when Chance Ritchey singled and then scored on an error from PSC.

In game two Potomac State starter Jake Arnold struck out eight and walked just one allowing no runs in 4 2/3 innings to get the win.  Ben McDougal worked the final 2 1/3 innings striking out six.

In all, Potomac State pitchers struck out 32 batters in the sweep.

Sadler drove in two runs with a double and triple. Little and Austin Prior each added two hits as PSC finished with nine hits.

Potomac State, (2-0) will next travel to Sumter, SC for a four-game series this weekend.
