Miller’s late heroics lift Potomac State to sweep over Garrett

McHenry, MD- Dakota Miller saved his best swing for last.  Trailing 6-5 heading into the final inning, Miller launched a two-run home run to lift Potomac State to a thrilling 7-6 win over Garrett on Wednesday afternoon.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Cam Cole drew a walk setting the stage for Miller.

"I had just missed a pitch in my last at bat, I was seeing the ball well and got a good pitch to hit," said Miller.  "It was a good feeling and a it's a good win for our team."

Zach Brennen got the Catamounts off to a good start in the opening frame with a grand slam to centerfield giving PSC a 5-0 lead.

Garrett answered back in the first with an RBI single from Giancarlo Bernardo and a two-run double from Karson Reed to make the score 5-4.

A sacrifice bunt and an error gave Garrett the lead 6-5 in the third inning.

Chance Moore had a pair of hits for the Lakers as did Daniel Garcia.

Tyler Henshaw picked up the win with a perfect sixth inning, striking out all three hitters he faced.  Jake Arnold came in for the bottom of the seventh to pick up the save.

The Catamounts won game one 10-0.

In the opener, Camden Goodwin threw a complete game shutout to pick up the win.  The whirling right-hander scattered five hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter.  Goodwin was sharp throwing 72 strikes in the 99-pitch complete game effort.

Miller went 3-3 with a single and a pair of doubles.  Brennen hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Grant Landis had a pair of hits for Garrett.

Potomac State, now 22-12 has won six in a row, will next play on Saturday April 22 at Hagerstown Community College.
