Potomac State uses home runs to thump Allegany 13-6

Caleb Taylor hit a pair of solo home runs leading Potomac State past Allegany College 13-6 Monday night at the Allegany County Fairgrounds.

Josh Hoffman and Preston Taylor also each hit a solo home run as PSC banged out fifteen hits on the night.

Dakota Miller drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly, a ground out and a 2-run single.

Allegany jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening frame on an RBI double from Dezmon Johnson and a sacrifice fly from Dylan Jones.

The Trojans expanded the lead in the second inning off of PSC starter Alexander Meckley.  Brendan Brady laced a two-run single to score Andrew Butts and Zach Johnson.

Meckley then settled into the game and did not allow another run his remaining three innings.  The righthander struck out four and picked up the win to improve to 3-3.

The Catamounts finally got on the board in the third when Chance Satcho, who had doubled earlier, scored on a sacrifice fly from Dakota Miller.

In the fourth, PSC cut the lead in half when a ringing double from Morgan Little scored Clay Maholic making the score 4-2.

With Meckley holding the Allegany hitters at bay, PSC took the lead in the fifth with a three-run inning.

Josh Hoffman led off the inning with a triple, and after an out came in to score on a groundout from Anthony Swenda.  Caleb Taylor then hit a solo home run to tie the score at 4-all.  Clay Maholic reached on an infield error, moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored on another double from Little to take a 5-4 lead.

The Catamounts added a pair of runs in the sixth on a solo home run from Preston Taylor and then a hustle run from Hoffman.  Reaching on another infield error, Hoffman went on to steal second and then while stealing third Miller chopped a ball out in front of home plate.  Miller was retired on a bang-bang play at first and all the while Hoffman kept running and scored easily.

ACM responded in the bottom half of the on a two-run home run from Zach Johnson off of PSC reliver Tyler Henshaw making the score 7-6.

After that homer, Henshaw settled in striking out eight Trojan hitters in four innings of work to pick up his first save.

Potomac State exploded for five runs in the seventh that began with Caleb Taylor's second home run of the day.  Hits from Maholic, Preston Taylor and Miller keyed the inning.

Hoffman's solo home run in the ninth ended the scoring.

Potomac State improves to 16-9 while ACM falls to 11-12.

Potomac State will return home for the next seven games.  The home stand begins on Wednesday with a pair of games with Cecil College beginning at 1pm.
