Catamounts drop three of four to Louisburg

Louisburg, NC- Louisburg College won a series over Potomac State by winning three out of four games over the weekend.

In the opener, Louisburg's Tristan Taylor outdueled PSC's Robert Kelley as the righthander struck out five in a seven-inning complete game

The Catamounts mustered just four hits, with Koice Qunitanilla's double the only extra base hit.

In game two, Potomac State took a 1-0 first inning lead after Josh Hoffman walked to open the game, stole second base, and later scored on a wild pitch.

PSC's Tyler Henshaw delivered five shutout innings, before Louisburg tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Zach Stanko.

In the bottom of the seventh, Louisburg's J.R. Lingerfelt scored on fielder's choice to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 win.

On Sunday, Potomac State took game one by a score of 4-3.

Jake Arnold picked up the win throwing five innings, striking out four.  Dalton Benson worked two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Trevor Thomas homered in the third inning to give the Catamounts an early lead.

Chris Sparper tied the game at 1-all with an RBI single in the bottom half of the third inning.  He then gave the Hurricanes the lead with a two-run home run to left field.

In the sixth, PSC took the lead for good, when Josh Hoffman and Dakota Miller hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning.  Caleb Taylor reached on an error and then Anthony Swenda delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 3-all.  Taylor later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3.

From there Benson was sharp, as he retired all six Louisburg hitters he faced, striking out four.

In the finale, Louisburg raced by PSC by a score of 13-4. 

Clay Maholic and Morgan Little homered for Potomac State in the loss.

With weather changing the schedule already, Potomac State will next play at Cecil on Monday for a pair of games at 1:00 p.m.
