Welcome back Catamount faithful to another week of the Potomac State Baseball Player diary. This week's weather got the best of us, but it led to us being able to enjoy a couple of days of “spring break.” We also faced off against W&J getting the sweep this week.
With the weather postponing our games and the campus went into spring break, we were able to get a couple of days off ourselves. Most of the guys headed home for the weekend to spend time with their families before the season took off in full effect. I talked to Seth Arnold, who was able to go home, and asked him about his break. He told me he spent quality time with his family and got to eat some of his favorite meals. When I asked him about which part was his favorite, he said “My mom makes the best pasta so that was really nice to have along with just spending time with them.” Some of the guys stayed back and I was one of the few that hung back. I am glad I did because it led to a nice night at the movies with a few of the local boys. Liam McKenzie, Ryan Shoemaker, and myself went out to watch the new Batman (something I have been dying to see) so when he texted us it was a no brainer. Liam texted us that day, we ordered the tickets, and got ready to destroy some popcorn. We had a good time as always and got ready for the upcoming games this week. On Monday, the guys who claim they can golf went out to the Fore Sisters Golf Course and had a matchup against each other. To hear and see more about that make sure to go watch this week's video as Dalton gives you guys a look at that!
We played Washington and Jefferson University yesterday, getting two wins which, we needed! Game one Xander Meckley stepped on the mound and threw a gem. Throwing 6 innings, he only gave up two runs and had a dominant performance. In the 6th, we scored 2 runs, putting us up from a 3-2 lead to a 5-2 lead late into the game. Mac Messier came into the game in the 7th inning and retired the side, getting two strikeouts. In game two Trevor Thomas launched another solo home run to left putting us onto the scoreboard and giving us the lead! Jared Adams threw 6 innings and gave up just two runs. Two great starts from our guys today which set us up in both games. Chris Curler came into the game in the 7th getting the close and shutting the door to game 2 at 3-2. Our pitchers have done a great job so far this season of throwing strikes, getting outs, and competing every pitch. The staff has worked extremely hard, and it shows. Another shoutout this week goes to Coach Schafer’s mom for making us food not only for after the game but for in between games too! We had the best chicken salad I have ever personally had in my life, and I am not the only one saying that! It was an extremely nice gesture and we all appreciated everything that she did for us.
We have a busy week coming up as we face off against Cecil College in a doubleheader today and have our home opener! On Friday we face up against Niagara County Community College at 2pm for the first game of the year at Golden Park! We hope to see all of those who can make it, but for those who cannot we also play Ulster County Community College on Saturday at home with a 1pm start time! At the end of the week, we face Marietta College at their place! Thank you guys for tuning into another week and we cannot wait to see you at the ballpark!
