Keyser, WV- Starting pitching was the star of the day on Saturday for Potomac State Baseball.
Starting pitchers Brandon Schaeffer and Avery Heiple were sharp and their efforts led the Catamounts to a doubleheader sweep over Harford Community College, 3-0 and 9-1.
Schaeffer went six innings, allowed just four hits, walked two and struck out ten Fighting Owl hitters as PSC won the opener 3-0.
Schaeffer pitched out of a first inning jam as Harford loaded the bases with one out, but the southpaw got a strikeout and a ground ball to end the inning.
PSC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Dale Houser singled and then Graham Brown walked, before Caleb Taylor singled to score Houser.
In the third inning, the same three Catamounts led to another run. Houser singled, Brown doubled and then Houser scored on a groundout from Taylor.
In the fourth, Dakota Miller was hit with a pitch, stole second and then scored on a double from Jack Hoeymans to make the score 3-0.
Schaeffer improves to 5-0 on the season.
In game two, Heiple was in command from the start. After allowing a leadoff single from Joe Quelch, Heiple struck out the next three hitters. He then struck out the side in the second, and punched out two more in the third. He finished the day with thirteen strikeouts and allowed just three hits in six innings of work. He improved his record to 5-0.
An RBI single in the second inning from Trevor Thomas scored Miller to give PSC an early lead.
Potomac State added single runs in the third and fourth. A ground out from Josh Hoffman scored Brown, who had singled in the third. Then Hoeymans scored on a double play in the fourth.
Miller drove in a run with a long double in the fifth, and PSC added another when Hoeymans reached on an error to make the score 5-0.
Potomac State put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted with RBI's from Taylor, Miller and Hoeymans.
Harford scored their only run of the day in the final inning on a sacrifice fly from Patrick Campbell.
Potomac State improves to 20-5, while Harford falls to 14-5-1.
The Catamounts are back at home on Sunday for a pair of games with Shenandoah University beginning at 1pm.
