Catamounts drop season opener to Montgomery

The WVU Potomac State Women's Soccer team started off their 2024 season with a home contest against Montgomery Community College on August 25, 2024. 

The Catamounts fell to the Raptors 0-5 in their home opening game despite strong efforts from the Catamounts to answer the offensive strikes. The Raptors dominated Catamounts in all statistical categories including shots, shots on goals, and corner kicks. Montgomery struck early, scoring in the 5th minute with an unassisted goal from Kendra Wotchuin.  They would follow up with a second goal in the 11th minute but the Catmounts would hold them to just 2 goals entering halftime.  In the first half, Montgomery took 20 shots, with Catamount goalkeepr Harley VanGilder recording 12 saves. 

The second half started and the Raptors pressed hard and scored their third goal in the 63rd minute and then followed up with goals 4 and 5 in the 76th and 77th minutes respectively. 

Montgomery took 34 shots in the contest, placing 22 on frame. VanGilder recorded 17 saves in the contest. The Raptors also lead on corners kicks, serving eight to the Catamounts two. Fouls were equal on both sides of the field for the night, with each team recording four.

Up next the Catamounts travel to Carroll Community College on Tuesday for their first Region 20 Division II contest of the year.
