Catamounts season ends at Region 20 Semifinal

The WVU Potomac State College women's soccer team lost 6-1 to Howard Community College yesterday afternoon at Howard in the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament Semifinal.

The No. 3 seeded Catamounts end the season with an overall 7-5-2 record. Their regular season record of 7-4-2 is their best regular season mark since posting a 10-2-1- record in 2016. PSC entered the playoffs winning 7 out of their last 9 matches.

With the win, Howard improves their overall record to 12-2. The No. 2 seeded Dragons entered the game ranked 16th in the latest NJCAA National Poll.

The game proved to be a battle early for the Potomac State. HCC forward Molly Nichols scored in the 7th and 9th minutes for an early 2-0 Dragon lead. Remi Rollins (33rd minute) and Yassine Kamara (41st minute) would extend the Howard halftime lead to 4-0.

In the second half Howard would tack on two more goals, Talia Stangherlin in the 59th minute and Rollins in the 65th minute.

Catamount freshman Kelsey O'Neal ripped a shot from outside the box to put PSC on the scoreboard in the 88th minute. Final score 6-1 in favor of Howard.

Goalkeeper Hailey Ternent had 7 saves for Potomac State, bringing her season save total to 122 with just 21 goals against.
