2-1 result over Christendom avenges earlier loss

KEYSER, W.Va. – The WVU Potomac State College women's soccer team stepped on the field last night with redemption in mind. Having lost to Christendom College 0-3 on October 2nd on the Crusaders home field the Catamounts drew the season series even with a 2-1 win Thursday in Keyser.

The Catamounts started off strong, finding the back of the net in the 5th minute. On a counter-attack Nicole McManamay played a through ball to Reagan McKenzie who sprinted past the defending line and placed the ball in the far corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

McKenzie would add another goal just over 10 minutes later off another through ball, this time from Cassidy Wallace.  Again, McKenzie's speed put her in past the defense and she slid a one-touch shot between the pipes. The Catamount lead was extended to 2-0.

Christendom responded with an Annie McGraw goal in the 37th minute to draw within 2-1 of the Catamounts. The score would hold through the game's remainder for a 2-1 Potomac State win.

Both teams finished with 16 shots and 9 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Hailey Ternent made 8 saves for the Catamounts and Miranda Keller made 7 saves for Christendom.

The win marks the 4th straight for Potomac State, their overall record stands at 5-3-2.

The Potomac State women's soccer team takes the field again for their homecoming match against the Hagerstown Hawks at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
