Catamounts control Owls offense

Keyser, W.Va - Potomac State Women's Basketball (7-6) hosted Region 20 east coast competition in the form of Harford Community College (3-13) Wednesday night at Lough Gymnasium.

The Catamounts jumped out to an early with freshman Hannah Ault adding to the scoreboard first. The Catamounts held the lead until the last minute of the first quarter when the Owls briefly took the lead 11-12.  Freshman Natalie Blakenship answered with a quick three pointer and that would be the first and last time Harford had the lead.  Potomac State closed out the first quarter leading 17-12.  Kelly Ours netted nine points in the first quarter and Chelcie Forrester grabbed four rebounds in the early minutes.

Potomac State would more than double their score in the 2nd quarter, continuing to push their lead on the Owls.  Elizabeth Pryor led the Catamount offense in the second quarter with nine points and the Catamounts as a team were shooting just over 50% in the quarter.  Heading into halftime they were leading 40-23.

The start of the third quarter saw the Catamounts with their largest lead of the game from an Olivia Saunders three pointer to move the score 43-23 but Harford wasn't done fighting yet.  They outscored Potomac State by one point in the third quarter despite the continued strong offense from the Catamounts. Chelcie Forrester, who seems to always excel in the second half of play, recorded eight points, four assists, and two rebounds and they ended the third with a comfortable lead of 67-51.

The final quarter of action, Harford shot only 26% but Chelcie Forrester scored 10 points in the final 10 minutes of play.  More impressively she recorded 12 rebounds, nine of them being defensive, ensuring that Harford couldn't put up the second shot.

Forrester finished up the night with another impressive set of numbers.  23 points, 23 rebounds, and eight assists, falling just short of what would have been a historical triple double.  Elizabeth Pryor and Kelly Ours each contributed 17 points and with Forrester led the Catamounts offensively.

The Catamounts are on the road heading to Garrett College on Saturday, February 3rd for a 1pm game.
