Forrester’s Career Night Leads Catamounts in OT

Keyser, W.Va - Potomac State Women's Basketball (6-5) hosted Route 220 rival Allegany College of Maryland (2-9) Wednesday night at Lough Gymnasium.

The Catamounts jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after back-to-back scores from sophomore center Chelcie Forrester. Allegany would soon jump out to the advantage and would hold an 18-15 lead heading into the second frame. Forrester and Allegany's Zahriah Bumbry both scored 9 points in the opening quarter.

Potomac State would find their footing in the 2nd and take the lead in the opening minutes 22-20 after a Forrester and-one and a layup by Hannah Ault. Teams were tied for several minutes, as well as the lead changing hands multiple times, but the Catamounts jumped out 38-32 heading into the break. Forrester led the way with 18 points in the first half.

The Trojans would open up the second half on an 8-0 scoring run with Ziahya Lomax scoring 6 points and Bumbry scoring a layup. Catamounts were outscored 20-8 in the third quarter and would trail 52-46 heading into the final ten minutes.

The fourth quarter would not start well for Potomac State. Allegany would start on an 8-4 run jumping out with their largest lead of the contest 60-50 with 7:03 remaining. An Ault and-one would start a 9-0 scoring run, followed by a layup from Elizabeth Pryor and four points from Forrester. Allegany would then take a 6-point lead 65-59 with 2:45 on the clock. Clutch scoring from Forrester and a timely layup by Ault, the Catamounts would draw even at the final buzzer 69-69.

Forrester would score the opening buckets of OT taking the lead 73-69. Saniya Brown kept things close scoring from deep cutting the Trojan deficit to 1 point. A pair of Ault free-throws would increase their lead 77-72 with 2:41 to go. Forrester would score 4 more in the contest as they would hold on 82-78 in OT.

Chelcie Forrester had a career night, scoring 43 points, including 25 in the fourth quarter and overtime, and added 10 rebounds. Hannah Ault added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Kelly Ours scored 10 points and Pryor added 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Zahriah Bumbry led the Trojans with 23 points and 7 rebounds, followed by 16 points from Saniya Brown, and 12 points and 8 rebounds from Ziahya Lomax.

The Catamounts are back in action Sunday January 21st at Frederick Community College.
