Potomac State loses in Region XX Tournament

Colombia, Md. - The Potomac State College women's basketball season came to an end at the hands of CCBC Essex Thursday afternoon.  The Catamounts dropped an 88-42 decision to the Knights in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships at Howard Community College. 

Potomac State, the No. 8 seed in the tournament were able to keep No. 1 seeded Essex in check in the first quarter.  The Catamounts held the Knights to 6-22 field goal shooting and trailed 15-11 entering the second.  

In the second quarter, the Catamounts again were able to frustrate the Essex shooters, holding them to six field goals the for the quarter. 

On the other hand, the Essex full court pressure proved troubling for Potomac State.  The Catamounts committed 10 second quarter turnovers and were able only to convert 4 field goals.  Entering halftime Essex held a 34-20 lead.

Essex hit full stride to start the second half, proving their value as the tournament's number 1 seed.  The Catamounts were forced into 12 turnovers in the third quarter and the Essex offense erupted for 29 points.  With a 63- 24 lead entering the final quarter, Essex cruised to the victory. 

Marleigh Bays had 13 points and Alexis Turner had 10 rebounds to lead the Catamounts.

Potomac State closes the 2019-2020 season with an even 10-10 record.
