Potomac State Downs Monroe in Four Game Series

Game 1 Recap: 

Potomac State defeated Monroe 8-2 in a well-rounded performance. Despite being tied 2-2 after the fourth inning, Potomac State surged ahead with a seven-run rally in the fifth, showcasing their offensive strength and defensive resilience.

Monroe took a brief lead in the fourth inning after two unearned runs. The first came when Aisling Wilson reached first base on a passed ball, allowing Maricela Colon to score. Antreece Coleman then crossed the plate on another passed ball, giving Monroe a 2-1 advantage.

However, Potomac State quickly responded in the fifth inning, starting with an error by the Monroe catcher that allowed Eva Ochoa to score. Jamie Kelly followed with a double that brought in Lindsay Mowry, tying the game at 2-2. Braylee Corbin then blasted a two-run home run, and Ashton Spiker added a solo shot, making it 5-2. The Catamounts weren't finished yet: Ochoa's two-RBI double brought in Kameron Beck and Shaleigh Darlington, capping a dominant seven-run inning and securing an 8-2 lead.

Game 2 Recap:

Potomac State defeated Monroe 9-4 in a dominant performance, powered by a huge first inning that set the tone for the rest of the game. Potomac State capitalized on offensive firepower early on, led by several key players.

Potomac State came out swinging in the first inning, scoring eight runs on a combination of big hits and errors by Monroe. Jamie Kelly got things started with a three-run home run, followed by Ashton Spiker's solo shot. Hailey Massie delivered a two-RBI double, and Lindsay Mowry added a two-RBI double of her own, finishing the first inning with an 8-0 lead.

Monroe tried to respond in the following innings. In the second inning, Gabrielle Gonzalez walked in a run, and in the fifth, Antreece Coleman hit a triple that brought in two more runs, narrowing the gap to 9-4. However, that would be the last scoring opportunity for Monroe.

Game 3 Recap:

Potomac State defeated Monroe in dominant fashion, securing a 12-4 victory. Potomac State's explosive offense, paired with solid pitching, led to a convincing win as they extended their impressive season record to 16-3.

The game was tied early at 1-1 after Monroe took the lead in the second inning with a sac fly by Nathalie Mongrain, scoring Antreece Coleman. However, Potomac State responded immediately, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second. A Hailey Massie sac fly tied the game, and Ariana Herrera followed up with an RBI fielder's choice to give Potomac State a 3-1 lead. The Potomac State offense kept rolling, adding a fourth run in the second inning off a double by Lindsay Mowry.

Monroe battled back in the third, with Reese Surratt hitting a triple to score Gabrielle Gonzalez, and Mongrain bringing her home with an RBI single. That brought the score to 4-3, but Potomac State quickly responded with a solo home run from Braylee Corbin and a massive 3-run shot by Kameron Beck, extending their lead to 8-3.

Monroe's offense was held in check as the game progressed, while Potomac State added to their lead with more powerful hitting. Antreece Coleman homered in the fourth inning for Monroe, but Potomac State continued to pull away. Eva Ochoa homered in the fifth to make it 10-4, and Beck stole second in the sixth, later scoring on a stolen home plate to extend the lead. Hailey Massie doubled in the final run of the game, securing a 12-4 victory for Potomac State.

Game 4 Recap:

Potomac State powered through Monroe in an impressive 16-7 victory. The game saw a display of potent offensive firepower from Potomac State, who added 16 runs on 12 hits, including five home runs, in a dominant win that improved their record to 17-3.

The game started with a brief advantage for Monroe, as Reese Surratt scored on a passed ball in the first inning, giving Monroe a 1-0 lead. Potomac State quickly answered, as Lindsay Mowry hit a two-run home run to put them ahead 2-1, followed by a two-run homer from Braylee Corbin, making it 4-1 after the first inning.

Monroe fought back in the second inning. Maricela Colon doubled in a run, and Yarializ Maldonado singled to bring in another, narrowing Potomac State's lead to 4-3. However, Potomac State responded with an explosive inning. Jamie Kelly hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second, giving Potomac State an 8-3 lead. Shaleigh Darlington added another run with an RBI double, making it 9-3.

The scoring continued for Potomac State, with Ashton Spiker hitting a 3-run home run in the third inning, pushing the score to 12-3. Monroe briefly tried to respond, with Surratt and Maldonado driving in runs in the fourth to make it 12-6. But Potomac State's offensive juggernaut kept rolling. Lindsay Mowry hit a three-run home run, and Ashton Spiker added another solo shot, increasing the lead to 16-6. Monroe managed one final run in the fifth, but it was not enough as Potomac State closed out the game 16-7.
