Potomac State Falls Short to Hagerstown, 73-68

CUMBERLAND, MD - The WVU Potomac State College men's basketball team fell short to Hagerstown Community College Friday evening, 73-68, during day one of the Personal Best Tip-Off Classic hosted by Allegany College of Maryland.

It was the Baltimore, Md. natives, Juliyen Johnson and Isaac James, who would lead Potomac State in this contest.

Johnson was the leading scorer for the Catamounts for a second consecutive game with 17 points, while also adding five rebounds and three assists. James filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Two other Catamounts contributed with a combined 20 points, as starters Richard Law Jr. and Cavonte Duncan poured in 11 points and nine points respectively.

Potomac State came out of the locker room strong by taking an early 26-12 lead, however, a quiet and steady run by Hagerstown closed the gap at the half with the Catamounts up 36-30.

Hagerstown captured their first lead of the game midway through the second half, 54-53, and never looked back. Hagerstown's defense was the story in this one as they accounted for 11 steals and forced the Catamounts into 23 turnovers.

Hagerstown Community College was led by Kyree Ellis who posted a dominant double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Hagerstown also got excellent guard play from Malik Jordan and Eathen Williams who finished with 19 points and 16 points.

Potomac State will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Bob Kirk Arena as they take on Allegany College of Maryland on day two of the Personal Best Tip-Off Classic.
