Potomac State and Bryant & Stratton exchanged leads several times during the first 38 minutes of their NJCAA basketball game Saturday afternoon on the Virginia Beach campus of B & S. In the final minutes, an offensive flurry from the Bobcats sealed the defeat of the Catamounts, 93-80.
At the 7:00 mark of the first quarter Makenna Douthitt hit a short jump shot, drew the foul and made the free throw to give Potomac State their first lead of the game, 9-8. From there, the Catamount’s never looked back, overpowering the visiting Garrett College Lakers and coasting to a 96-43 win Saturday afternoon at Lough Gymnasium.
Less than 48 hours after losing to Westmoreland County Community College at Youngwood, Pa., the Potomac State men’s basketball team rebounded to beat the Wolfpack, 90-74, Sunday afternoon in Keyser.
Potomac State started the game slow and Westmoreland hit big shots down the stretch as the Catamounts lost a hard-fought game Friday night on the road, 86-78.
With most of their usual NJCAA Region XX opponents not participating, the 2020-21 basketball season will take the WVU Potomac State College women to unfamiliar places. That place Friday night was WVU Tech and the four-year NAIA opponent proved too much for the Catamounts to handle. The Golden Bears beat PSC, 112-34.
