WVU Potomac State will play host to the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament 1st round this weekend. The Catamounts will be hosting Montgomery Community College in a best of 3 series. The winner of the series will play next week at CCBC Catonsville for a chance to earn a trip to the NJCAA World Series in South Carolina.
Potomac State is the number 1 seed in the tourney and if they win this weekend they will play the winner of the 4vs5 games in the tournament opener Thursday, May 11 at 2:00 PM. The winner of 2vs7 and the winner of 3vs6 will play in game two at 4:30 PM. The winners of games 1 and 2 will meet at 12:00 PM Friday afternoon and the loser will face off in a win or go home game at 2:30 PM. The loser of game 3 and the winner of game 4 will play at 5:00 PM for a chance to move on and play for the Region Championship. Saturday, the Winners of Games 3 and 5 will face off at 12:00 PM. If necessary, a final game will be played at 2:30 PM.
Catamounts vs Region 20
Potomac State has had a very successful season going undefeated in region play.
Coach Craig Rotruck Catamount team enters the tournament at 38-3 and 14-0 in Region 20 DII. They currently have a batting average of .401 as a unit, and slugging percentage at .671 with 73 homeruns. The Catamounts have almost the entire team batting above .300 this season. Leading the way for the Catamounts at the plate is Alexa Shoemaker (.607), Abby Peace (.361), and Alexis Bailey (.517). Shoemaker has 18 doubles, 19 homeruns and 68 RBIs on the season. Peace has 16 homeruns and 54 RBIs. Bailey has 12 doubles, 1 triple, 15 homeruns and 59 RBIs. In the circle, Abby Peace has lead the way for the Catamounts with an 18-0 record in 23 appearances and 2 saves. In 115.1 innings pitched, she has 218 strikeouts averaging 13.23 strikeouts per game and a ERA of 1.15. The Catamounts have Jenna Burkhamer and Riley Schulze who have strong arms. They have a combined 71 strikeouts. Burkhamer has an ERA of 2.06 and Schulze 2.28.
