WVU Potomac State College Esports opens fall competition

Keyser, W.Va. – Sunday evening saw the WVU Potomac State College Esports team open competition for the 2020-21 season.

The Catamounts No.1 Rocket League squad; Dylan Rotz (Captain), David Boffa and Seth Suslik competed in Round 1 of the Collegiate Rocket League Champions League Eastern Qualifier. Despite finishing 17 out of 90 teams in the tournament, Potomac State failed to qualify for the Collegiate Rocket League after dropping the quarterfinal round match 0-2 against UNC Charlotte.

PSC will again to look to qualify in Round 2 of Collegiate Rocket League qualifying slated to take place Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m.

Potomac State opened strong in the first match of the day besting a Club team from Winchester, VA 2-0. They outscored their opponents 6-0 in game 1 and 7-0 in game two.

In the second match against Drexel University the Catamounts lost the first game, 5-1 before evening the match in game two with a 2-1 win. The Dragons of Drexel capitalized on some untimely PSC errors in game three and closed out the match with a 4-3 win.

The University of Wisconsin would be Potomac State's opponent in the day's third match. After dropping game one 3-2, the Catamounts reeled off two impressive wins over the Badgers by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.

The fourth match saw Potomac State take on the Huskies of the University of Connecticut. PSC was up to the task defeating UConn 2-1. Game scores were 2-1, 0-3 and 2-1.

In the final match if the day, UNCC also took advantage of some untimely PSC miscues. The 49ers won game one 2-0 before closing out the match with a 3-2 overtime win in game two.
