Welcome back Catamount faithful to the Potomac State Baseball player diary. This week was another one full of ups and downs with weather, but we continued to find a way to make it work. The weather has not been as favorable as we would like, but we are so fortunate to have an indoor facility to hit, pitch and get ground balls whenever we want. It is a baseball junkie dream spot.
One of the main highlights of this week was Coach Little’s 800th career win. Coach has had an incredible career and has already earned many accomplishments, but he continues to impress year in and year out. It was a pleasure to be a part of it and a moment that I’m sure each player on the 2022 team will not soon forget. You can check out more about this on the Potomac State Baseball Twitter!
This week we played Cecil College for a double header at Golden Park. In the first game we won 4-0 with a dominant performance by Owen Keim throwing a complete game four hitter! He also struck out four in the outing. In game two Jared Adams threw four innings, just allowing one hit. Avery Heiple and Mac Messier both threw scoreless innings. Pitching dominated the day for the Catamounts. Game two the bats woke up led by a solid performance from Anthony Swenda with a 3 hit game. On Saturday we faced off against Scotland Prep at home taking both games in a crazy game. Game one we won 5-1 with a great performance from Rob Kelley throwing a complete game striking out a career high 13 strikeouts! In game two Jake Arnold also threw a gem getting 8 strikeouts in a complete game effort! In game two weather took a crazy turn as it started hailing. Scotland’s coaches and players helped us with a mid-game tarp that allowed us to finish the game. It was a crazy experience that took everybody’s help! Finishing up the week against Shenandoah University we took the weekend series, winning both games. Caleb Taylor and Dakota Miller both left the park hitting absolute bombs. In game two Clay Maholic brought in two runs in a close 4-1 game. Tyler Henshaw struck out seven in 5 innings while Mac Messier got the two inning save striking out four.
For the first time in what feels like we were finally able to get out on the field for a team practice. With the weather being an everyday battle, it was great to be able to get outside on a sunny day and get to do one of the main parts of our programs… three group BP! We not only got to hit and see the ball fly, but we got to read balls of the bat and work on base running. 65 and sunny felt like 95 after the winter weather that we have been having. Today we had a guest appearance with a camera man from University Relations at WVU coming down to get video footage of the coaches and some of the guys during our day. He had Coach Little, Coach Schafer, and some of the guy's mic’d up for video footage and interviews. We also took care of some field management stuff with more games at home coming up. Hoping to continue to have days like these, we look forward to the upcoming games as it seems warm weather may be finally approaching! After practice, a group of the guys went down to one of their favorite spots, EL Jinete, for Mexican food.
