HAGERSTOWN, MD— In Brett Whiteman’s last appearance he pitched a perfect game, on Thursday the sophomore might have pitched even better.  Whiteman allowed just two hits over seven complete innings as Potomac State rolled past Hagerstown 15-0.

“I was able to get ahead with my fastball, and then kind of went from there,” said Whiteman.  Indeed, he did, throwing 100 pitches in the seven-inning complete game, 68 for strikes, and threw first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 25 batters he faced.

“I was able to keep them off balance and let my defense make plays behind me-which they did,” Whiteman concluded.

Dale Houser tripled, doubled and singled driving in four runs to lead the Catamount offense.

Cole Miller and Foster Conis went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Joel Spishock singled twice, and Austin Martin and Austin Chavis had a single and two RBIs. Chavis scored three times for Potomac State, which led 2-0 after five innings, then blew the game open with a nine-run sixth.

The first six batters in the sixth inning reached base, four with singles and two on Hagerstown errors. Chavis and Cole Miller hit two-run singles, Houser an RBI double, and Martin and Foster Conis RBI singles in the big inning. Spishock hit two singles in the inning.

Houser’s triple drove in two runs in the seventh.

Potomac State Head Coach Doug Little was pleased by his team’s effort.

“Our hitters did a great job of battling, they hit some balls hard and (Whiteman) did a great job of keeping them off balance.  We ran the bases well, it was a total team effort.”

Whiteman was in command the entire the entire game as he allowed just a fourth-inning single to Josh Menders and a fifth-inning double to Andrew Mathias, walked three and struck out 12.

The Catamounts (27-6) host Anne Arundel on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Hagerstown is now 31-12
