Keyser, WV — The WVU Potomac State College Women's Soccer team came up short in a tough matchup against Carroll Community College on Wednesday, falling 5–1 at Stayman Field.
Despite the final score, the Catamounts showed flashes of promise throughout the contest. Freshman forward Mollie Wheatley netted the lone goal for Potomac State in the 61st minute, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity to bring the score to 3–1. Wheatley led the team with four total shots, including three on goal, and remained a consistent offensive threat throughout the match.
In goal, Hadley Courtney turned in a gritty performance, recording eight saves against a relentless Carroll attack that tallied 23 total shots. Courtney's efforts kept the Catamounts within reach for much of the game. Lindsay Mowry also made her mark on the stat sheet, contributing a shot on goal and playing a key role in generating offensive pressure, including multiple corner kicks that gave Potomac State chances to capitalize.
Potomac State will look to bounce back on Tuesday, September 16th, when they travel to face CCBC Catonsville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
