Columbia, MD — WVU Potomac State College Women's Soccer opened their 2025 season in dominant fashion, rolling to an 8–1 victory over Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland. The Catamounts wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four goals in the first half and adding four more after the break to secure a decisive win in their season debut.
Sophomore forward Lynnea Clark led the charge with a breakout performance, scoring four goals and adding an assist. Her first goal came in the 8th minute and marked her first collegiate tally, quickly followed by a second from Mollie Wheatley less than a minute later. Clark added two more goals in the second half, including the final strike in the 86th minute, capping off a stellar afternoon. Freshman Kendall Kelly also made her mark, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 31st minute and finishing with a hat trick after adding goals in the 46th and 60th minutes.
Potomac State controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Howard 33–5 and placing 21 shots on goal. The Catamounts earned six corner kicks and committed just one foul in a disciplined and aggressive showing. Goalkeeper Meghan Harris played the full 90 minutes, making one save and allowing just a single goal, while Howard's keeper Lamees Bazzi was under constant pressure, recording 12 saves.
Howard's lone goal came in the 62nd minute from Kaily Ok, but it did little to slow the momentum of a Potomac State squad that looked sharp and cohesive in their season opener.
With the win, the Catamounts move to 1–0 on the season and will look to build on their strong start as they return home to face Allegany College of Maryland on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
