The Potomac State Softball team continues the hunt for a fifth straight Region XX, Division II championship today when they face Hagerstown Community College. The Catamounts are competing in the four-team double-elimination tournament to win a trip to the NJCAA Softball Championship in Clinton, MS, May 22-25.
Potomac State (25-13) enters the tournament seeded No. 3 while Hagerstown (33-9) is the No. 2 seed, their game begins at 4:00 PM, weather permitting. Rounding out the field, top seeded CCBC Catonsville (36-8) and No. 4 seed Chesapeake College (14-8) open play today at 2:00 PM. The Cardinals of Catonsville climbed three spots in the latest NJCAA Division II national poll, moving up to No. 11.
The Catamounts enter today with momentum, winning 8 of their last 10 games. They are ranked No. 10 in the nation in batting average (.391) and No. 8 in the nation in slugging percentage (.616) among Division II schools. PSC has shown power at the plate as well, hitting 40 home runs on the season.
In their only meetings of the 2019 campaign Hagerstown swept both ends of double header at Potomac State (7-4,12-0) on April 1st.
The winner on the Potomac State and Hagerstown game will play tomorrow at Noon, the loser plays tomorrow at 2:00 PM. The complete tournament schedule is provided below.
