Walton scores 25 for 21-0 Cats; ACM holds off Montgomery

BUTLER, Pa. — Cortney Walton led a trio of Potomac State scorers to eclipse the 20-point mark as the No. 2 Catamounts pulled away from Butler 114-88 on Saturday afternoon.

Walton finished with 25 points on nine field goals, three of which were three-pointers, and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Leondre Rogers and Calvin Wilder both tacked on 23 points for the Catamounts, who led 55-49 at halftime. Rogers had 11 field goals, including a three-pointer, and Wilder finished with nine baskets and shot 5 for 8 from the line. Wilder also grabbed seven boards, two assists and two steals. 

Ramone Williams rounded out those in double figures with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.

Joel Stutz led Butler with a game-high 31 points and Andrew Yonker knocked down five three-pointers en route to tallying 18 points.

The win improves the Catamounts to 21-0 and may catapult them to No. 1 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Poll. Kirkwood (Iowa), who currently sits at the top spot, fell to No. 12 North Iowa Area, 95-81, on Saturday. The next poll will be released on Tuesday. Before that, Potomac State has business to take care of, as it travels to No. 17 Frederick on Monday at 7 p.m.

Allegany 103 Montgomery 92

CUMBERLAND — Davon Floyd scored a career high 38 points, including 15 in less than a four-minute span in the second half, and Demarcus Demonia had a huge night as well with 29 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots, carrying Allegany College to a 103-92 win over Montgomery College in their Maryland JUCO Conference game Friday night at Bob Kirk Arena.

The win in the conference finale moves the Trojans to 15-9 overall and 11-3 in the conference. They finished second to Baltimore City in the conference and will likely play Frederick in the opening round of the Maryland JUCO Tournament on Friday at Hagerstown.

Floyd’s career night featured 10 field goals, seven being three-pointers, and an 11-for-13 showing from the free-throw line. He also dished out five assists. Demonia had 13 field goals and a pair of free throws.

Justin Copman added 10 points and nine rebounds, Saivon Word had 14 points and Antoine Lewis 11 for Allegany, which made 11 three-point shots.

Vincent Rose, with 27 points, and Charlie Ali, with 26, led Montgomery (13-11, 6-8).

Tied 41-41 after the first half, Floyd put the Trojans on his back to begin the second, scoring 15 points in the first 3:45. The 15 came in threes, as he opened the half with three consecutive three-point goals, and after a three-point play, hit again from beyond the three-point stripe.

Still, Montgomery led 75-73 with 8:45 to go. The Trojans buried the Raptors with a 21-2 run over the next 4:35, moving the 75-73 deficit to a 94-77 lead. The run was fueled by several steals by Word, Lewis and Demonia, which led to a number of transition points and Demonia dunks.

The Trojans scored 62 points in the second half. Floyd had 24 points, Demonia 18 and Word 14 after halftime.

Allegany plays at Northern Virginia on Monday before taking part in the JUCO Tournament on Friday. All games in the conference tournament will be played at Hagerstown.
