Potomac State Baseball Player Diary 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Potomac State Baseball player diary homepage. This season, Sophomores Jake Compton (Mentor, OH / Mentor High School, Chris Harbert (Bridgeport High School / Bridgeport, WV), and Tanner Haskiell (Southern High School / Terra Alta, WV) will take the lead on the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary.

Hello Catamount Nation, welcome to week 2 of the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary. Although it was less than tropical here in Keyser, but we all know that doesn’t stop us from getting our work in and having a little bit of fun. Although we were stuck inside the Batting Performance Center (BPC) again all week and had to do the same type of practice as last week we continue to push each other to get better and tougher. Carson Boober pushed Ryan Conrad specifically to get tougher as he drilled him in the ribs with a fastball while Conrad was standing in on his bullpen. The pitchers progressed to throwing all their pitches this week as opposed to just fastballs and change ups last week. Batters are encouraged to stand in during these to see live pitching as much as possible before the season opener that is only 20 days away.

Potomac State Baseball also welcomes the addition of two new players who joined the squad over winter break, Eli Kuykendall an outfielder from Petersburg, WV and Gabe Jansen a right-handed pitcher from Morgantown, WV. Something else to check out is our newly uploaded team Roster, headshots, and schedule. Thank you to Mr. Raymond Burner for getting our great pictures in such a timely manner.

To start the week off Braden Sloan (Hurricane, WV) found himself doing the blazing challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings because of a last place finish in the fantasy football league. This required him to sign a few waivers and attempt to eat 10 of Buffalo Wild Wings hottest wings with no drink in 5 minutes or less. Although Sloan didn’t quite get the job done, he did impress as he managed to get down 7 wings. The remaining 3 wings were split between the rest of the guys and one bite was plenty of heat for everyone else. Jake Compton went around the dorms this week and did our yearly survey of the players’ favorite professors. The professors that were mentioned were John Stone (Accounting), Amy Weaver (Business Technology), Don Schafer (Physical Education), Doug Little, (Physical Education), Tom Sydow (English), Farren Smith (Biology), Vickie Huffman, (Biology), Erin Cunningham (Biology), Bruce Liller, (Psychology) Steve Oberlechner (English), Tom Sydow (English), Richard Peterson, (Mathematics) and Mohammad Saifi (Engineering).

Tuesday after practice we had the annual field goal tournament in the BPC. This year’s favorite was Reilly Bubb (Martinsburg, WV), Bubb was the kicker and punter for Hedgesville High School where he knocked down a career long 44-yard field goal. Although Bubb made it to the championship round he was upset by Cameron Seabol (Elizabeth, PA).  This was an upset for the ages and should be proof to all, that the game is not played on paper.

Following practice Sunday a group of us gathered at Chris Harbert’s house to watch the NFC and AFC Championship games. Game 1 being between the Eagles and Commanders while game 2 was played between the Bills and Chiefs. Of course, we were all rooting for the Bills to beat the chiefs, especially Cooper Polcovich who is from Auburn NY and were disappointed to see them lose however it was a good way to wind down after a hard week of practice.

See you back here next week.
