Rubendall swings Potomac State to sweep over Hornets

Winchester, VA- Nik Rubendall's big day at the plate led Potomac State to a doubleheader sweep over Shenandoah University Friday night.

Rubendall went 7-10 with three doubles and six runs batted in during the twin bill.

In game one, Maddox Brooks added three hits as drove in two as Potomac State cruised to a 15-2 win.

Ben McDougal struck out seven and surrendered just one hit in five innings of work.  The southpaw allowed just one earned run to improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Catamounts banged out a season-high 17 hits in the seven-inning game.  Jimmy Sadler, Chris Harbert and Jaylon Sanders each had a pair of hits.

Cameron Carrow and Daulton Stewart each drove in a run for the Hornets.

PSC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI ground out from Sammy Bradfield and a run scoring single from Harbert.

A six-run third inning by the Catamounts blew the game open.  A Rubendall double score Cam Cole and Jimy Sadler who had walked and singled respectively.

Brooks then doubled to score Rubendall and then scored on Bradfield's single.  A sacrifice fly from Harbert followed.  Sanders then guided a single to center to score Bradfield.

Three straight singles from Cole, Sadler and Rubendall led off the four-run sixth inning.   RBI's from Rubendall, Aidan Milton and Sanders capped off the inning. 

RBI doubles from Rubendall and Brooks led to two runs in the seventh, while a sacrifice fly from Jordan Canby wrapped up the scoring for the Catamounts.

In game two, Cam Cole and Jimmy Sadler added two hits apiece as Potomac State battled to a 9-7 win.

Cooper Polcovich picked up the save with 3 1/3 innings of relief work.  Polcovich allowed just two hits and one run to close down the win.  Dylan Bell was awarded the win with 3 2/3 innings of work to open the game.

Potomac State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the nightcap.  Sadler homered in the first, and then PSC got RBI's from Reilly Bubb and Tanner Haskiell to make it 3-0.

In the second inning, three straight singles led off the inning from Harbert, Sanders and Cole were followed by an error.  A sacrifice fly from Sadler, another double from Rubendall left PSC with a 6-0 lead.

Shenandoah answered back with a six-run second inning.  Five singles, a walk, a balk and an error evened the game up at 6-all.

Rubendall's run scoring single in the fourth gave the lead back to PSC at 7-6.

Cole's double in the fifth inning gave PSC an 8-6 lead.

The Hornets again answered with an RBI walk to Samuel Vandrey in the fifth inning to cut the lead to one.

An insurance run for PSC in the sixth inning was added on a sacrifice fly by Harbert.

PSC outhit Shenandoah 12-10 in the nightcap.
