Potomac State takes road series with split at Lenoir

Kinston, NC- Potomac State and Lenoir split a pair one-run games on Sunday afternoon at Lancer Park.

Lenoir scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth for a 3-2 win in the opener. 

Andrew Kitelinger and James Hawkins led Lenoir with two runs apiece.  

Jimmy Sadler and Jaylon Sanders led PSC with a pair of hits each, while Maddox Brooks and Reilly Bubb drove in the two Catamount runs.

Ryne Ange went the distance for Lenoir improving to 3-1 on the season.  The right-hander struck out three and walked none.

Dylan Bell gave PSC a quality start with five innings pitched and five punchouts.

The Lancers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when four straight hits from Kayden Crawford, Hawkins, Jacob Strimple and Kitelinger pushed two runs across the plate.

The Catamounts answered back in the top of the fourth when Sadler led off with a single.  Nik Rubendall singled one out later and was followed by a double from Brooks that scored Sadler.   Bubb then delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Rubendall and tied the game at 2-all.

The Lancers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Kightlinger led off with a bloop single.  A sacrifice bunt moved him into scoring position.  TJ French then hit a deep flyball to the fence that was hauled in by PSC centerfielder Bryce Suters on a diving catch.  However, Suters was injured on the play and Kitelinger scored all the way from second to take the lead.

In game two, Cooper Polcovich struck out eight in four innings of work to lead Potomac State to a 6-5 win.

The southpaw scattered five hits, walked juts one and allowed just a lone run to pick up his first win of the season.

The Catamounts jumped to an early lead in the first when Cam Cole was hit by a pitch to open the game, he moved to second on a ground out then stole third base.  He came in to score on a sacrifice fly from Rubendall making bit 1-0.

In the second, PSC loaded the bases when Aiden Milton walked, Sanders was hit by a pitch and Cole singled on a bunt.  Sadler drove in a run on a deep sacrifice fly ball, then after another fly out Brooks delivered a double to score Sanders.  Tanner Haskiell then delivered a pinch-hit single for another RBI making the score 4-0.

An additional run was scored by Potomac State in the third when Sammy Bradfield hustled around the bases.  After being hit by a pitch, Bradfield stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

Lenoir answered in the fourth on an infield single from Jordan Brown that scored Starkweather.

A sacrifice fly from Sanders in the top of the fifth gave PSC a 6-1 lead. 

Lenoir busted out for two runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively making the score 6-5.  French drove in three of those runs for LCC on a single and a double.

Aidan VanRider worked a perfect seventh inning for the Catamounts to pick up his first save of the year.
