Potomac State outlasts Lenoir 11-8

Kinston, NC- Ben McDougal pitched five solid innings striking out nine and allowed just two earned runs as Potomac State College picked up their first win of the season.

Jimmy Sadler and Maddox Brooks each homered and drove in three runs apiece to lead the Catamount attack. 

Cam Cole and Gage Bibey each has three hits as PSC banged out twelve hits.

Tanner Haskiell picked up his first save as he recorded the final three outs.  Sandwiched between McDougal and Haskiell was a solid effort from Caden Goodwin who struck out three.

Brandon Warren took the tough luck loss for Lenoir as he struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Carter Starkweather led the was offensively for the Lancers as the sweet-swinging lefty hammered two home runs and drove in four runs.

Sadler gave PSC the early lead in the opening frame with a two-run home run.  He was back in the fold in the third when his sacrifice fly scored Cole to make the score 3-0.

A sacrifice fly from Chris Harbert in the fourth inning extended the Catamount lead to 4-0.

The Lancer fought back in the fourth inning when they scored an unearned run on a Catamount error.  Starkweather then hit his first home run, a two-run shot to cut the lead to 4-3.

In the sixth, Brooks hit his home run, a solo shot to make the score 5-3.

PSC extended the lead to 7-3 in the seventh inning, when Sadler and Rubendall each scored on wild pitches during the two-run frame.

Lenoir fought back again in the seventh and eighth innings.  A sacrifice fly from Hunter Tyndall cut the lead to 7-4 in the seventh.  Then in the eighth Starkweather hit his second home run of the day to make the score 7-6.

In the top of the ninth Cole led off with his third hit of the day, chasing reliver Carter Johnson.  Colin Wyant took his place on the mound and promptly walked Sadler to put runners at first and second.  A perfect bunt hit from Bryce Suters loaded the bases.  Rubendall was then hit by a pitch to score Cole.

Brooks then came up with the biggest hit of the day for PSC with a double to left field scoring both Sadler and Suters.  Potomac State added another clutch run on a ground out scoring Rubendall to make the score 11-6.

Potomac State would need every run as Lenoir fought back again in the ninth inning as they hit three base hits and a walk to score two runs. In the end Haskiell got a ground ball fielder's choice to end the game.

The two teams will be back in action on Sunday at Lancer Field for an 11am twin bill.
