Potomac State Baseball 2024 Player Diary Week 8

Welcome to the 2024 Potomac State Baseball player diary homepage. This season, Sophomores Ben McDougal (Bridgeport High School / Bridgeport, WV), and Kris Sutton (Cobb County High School / Calhoun, GA) will take the lead on the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary.

Welcome back Catamounts to this week's addition to the Potomac State Baseball Player Diary. This week was especially important as we traveled to Kinston, North Carolina.

A quick question was asked to the guys being “name a woman”. As for young adults most guys name their mother or a celebrity some guys really thought deep and told some women from the past.  The depth of thinking from this very analytical group is astounding.  Deep thinkers indeed.

The weekend started by pulling out of campus at 9:30 A.M. on Friday morning to head to Kinston, NC to play a four-game series against the very talented Lenoir Community College.  Lenoir has a history of being a quality program and they were just one game away from the DII JUCO World Series last year, so all the guys knew we had to play perfectly.

The trip was long, being a little over six hours. Long trips can make you angry sometimes being in a bus for a long period of time, but the guys found ways to make the time pass. Most guys sleep most of the way, watch Netflix, or sit around laughing and telling stories. As we arrived in Kinston we checked into the hotel we were assigned our rooms and told when we would leave to head to dinner. The last thing of the night Coach Jones comes through the room at curfew to give us the plan for the weekend.  As Saturday morning came around, we got the notification that the games would be pushed back then later turned into a single nine-inning game on Saturday.  A little extra sleep is never a bad thing.

To sum up the weekend’s games, the guys made a huge improvement from last weekend going 2-1 winning the series against Lenoir College. There were a few hiccups that happened, but it is to be expected being early the second weekend of the spring, but the good thing is the guys had a short memory and made big-time plays. During the weekend got multiple quality outings out of our pitchers including Ben McDougal (Bridgeport, WV) with an outstanding outing going 5 innings with 9 strikeouts, and Cooper Polcovich (Auburn, NY) with another outstanding outing. Sophomore Maddox Brooks (Waynesboro, PA) had a great weekend at the plate hitting .500 with 5 RBIs. Jimmy Sadler (Houston, PA) also had an outstanding weekend hitting.444 and launching the first home run of the year.

After the three games, the guys were so pumped up on the ride back being we won the series against a great organization. The bus ride on the way back was all laughing and guys having fun talking about the weekend and how everyone did. As for our next week series, we have our home opener against Alpena Community College. The guys are super excited for next week's practice coming off a series win knowing we still have to improve each day to get better for May.  And as the famous Rocky line goes, “It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.”

As always, I hope you enjoyed this week’s version of the player diary and make sure to check out this week’s video below on YouTube.
