Florence, SC- Ashton Staubs gave Potomac State a quality start of four innings to help propel the Catamounts to their first win, an 8-3 win over Monroe College, of the 2020 campaign.

The freshmen righthander went four innings to pick up the win.  He scattered six hits while striking out five Mustang hitters.  Trevor Thomas worked the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up the save.

"I was able to mix my pitches at all different times and different counts," Staubs said.

Potomac State was led at the plate by Hayden Almond and Caleb Taylor, each of which had two runs batted in.

Preston Taylor added a single and a double and Devon Neal hit his first home run of the season, a solo blast in the fifth inning.

Despite being outhit seven to five, PSC was able to capitalize on seven walks, four of which scored, from Mustang pitchers.  PSC pitchers walked nine but were able to escape damage by getting outs via a pickoff, a caught-stealing and a game-ending double-play.

"It's always good to get the first win of the season," said Potomac State Head Coach Doug Little.  "This is especially big to get it over a good team like Monroe.  They have been to the World Series the last two years and they are always well coached."

Christian Hernandez hit a two-run home run for Monroe.

Potomac State dropped the opener earlier in the day to Florence Darlington Tech.  The Stingers held the PSC offense in check allowing just three hits as they held on for a 4-2 win.

First inning RBI's from Cameron Dean and Scott McDonough set the Stingers up for a 2-0 lead.

A Danny Grillo solo home run increased the lead to 3-0.

FDT starter Danny Parks worked four innings striking out five to pick up the win.

Potomac State will face the same two teams on Sunday beginning at 10am.
