Baseball: Catamounts pick up a pair of wins in North Carolina

Surry, NC- The Potomac State Baseball picked up two wins this past weekend as they downed Lakeland Community College 13-0 and then picked up an extra-inning win over Surry Community College 10-5.

In the opening game Potomac State starter Colt Webb picked up his second win in as many starts this season as the sophomore struck out seven of the 15 batters he faced in the 5 inning complete game win.

Webb allowed just two hits and walked none in the shutout win.

Offensively, PSC took advantage of eleven walks from Lakeland pitching.

Brandon Schaeffer led the Catamounts with three RBI’s and Austin Chavis also drove in three with a bases loaded double in the fifth inning.

PSC also picked up RBI’s from Austin Martin, Hayden Almond, Juwuan Weaver and Cole Miller.

In game two, Potomac State trailed 2-0 after two innings as Surry’s Brady Drennen double drove in the second run.

The Catamounts took the lead with a 5-run fifth inning highlighted by Joel Spishock’s two run double and Weaver’s two-run single.

Surry Battled back to tie the game at 5-all when Drennen hit another two-run double in the sixth inning.

The game was suspended after six innings due to darkness and was completed on Sunday morning.

Potomac State threatened in the seventh but was unable to score after a 1-out bases loaded situation.

In the top of the eighth Potomac State broke through with five runs.  Spishock’s third hit of the day, a bases loaded double led the scoring and Almond added a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to five.

Schaeffer worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season.

Brandon Schamp worked the first 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs and struck out four.

PSC improves to 3-1 on the season and is scheduled to play at home this weekend.
