Sumter, SC- Potomac State (1-0) received strong pitching and timely hitting to gain a win in their season opener 4-2 over Saturday morning.

Sophomore Colt Webb went four strong innings striking out seven to pick up his first win of the 2019 campaign.  Webb did not allow a hit before leaving the game on a pre-determined pitch count.

"Colt pitched a great game," said Potomac State Head Coach Doug Little.  "He competed, threw strikes and gave us a chance to win."

Webb was relieved by Tyler Bradford who worked two innings and Brandon Schaeffer who got the final three outs to pick up the save.   The three Catamount pitchers combined to allow just one hit and strike out 10 Stinger hitters.

Florence Darlington falls to 9-4 on the season and will play Potomac State again on Sunday at 10am.

The Catamounts took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning as they took advantage of two Stinger errors.

FDT tied the game in the 5th inning when Bradford walked three and hit a batter before he stranded three runners to end the inning.

Austin Chavis led off the sixth inning with a single and after a strikeout Pete Costigan singled to put multiple Catamount runners on base.  A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and Hayden Almond delivered a single that scored both Chavis and Costigan.  On the same play a pair of throwing errors allowed Almond to come all the way around the bases to increase the lead to 4-1.

Darlington rallied in the bottom of the seventh when they broke through with their first hit of the game, a single from Patrick Baggett and an RBI ground out from Michael Elijah.   The Stingers had the tying and winning runs on base, but Schaeffer was able to strike out the final batter to end the game.

"This is a big win for us, "said Little.  "We have been outside only a handful of days, so to come down here and beat a team as good as Darlington is big.  It was a real team win. "

PSC gets little rest as they play later tonight versus #2 ranked Walters State Community College.
