Bel Air, MD – WVU Potomac State College opens the NJCAA Eastern District Division I baseball tournament on Friday at Harford Community College. The No. 3 seed Catamounts play the tournament’s first game when they face No. 2 seeded Spartanburg Methodist College at 2:00 PM. Rounding out the four-team double-elimination tournament, No. 1 seed Harford Community College and No. 4 seed Monroe College play their opening round game at 6:00 PM Friday. The winner of the Eastern District Tournament advances to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado, May 25th – June 1st.

Potomac State (31-11) will be seeking the program’s 7th appearance in the NJCAA World Series, having last appeared in 2011. Coach Doug Little’s Cats are hitting .349 on the season, ranked 11th in the nation, and carry an on-base percentage of .450, good for 9th in the nation. Their defense has proven efficient, committing just 42 errors this season, 4th best in all NJCAA DI baseball.

Spartanburg Methodist (31-16) of South Carolina enters as the Region X Champion. No stranger to the big stage themselves, they’ve appeared in 9 World Series, most recently in 2014.

Friday’s Game #2 opponents are treading in familiar waters also. Monroe College (29-17) of New York, the 2019 Region III Champions, are the defending Eastern District Tournament Champs, traveling to the World Series for the first time in school history last season. Host team and Region XX Champ Harford Community College (46-7), ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA DI national poll, has appeared in the World Series once in 2016.

The winner of Friday’s Potomac State vs Spartanburg game will face the Monroe/Harford winner on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The losers of each Friday game will square off Saturday at 2:30 PM in the first elimination game. The complete tournament schedule is provided below.
