Costigan late-inning home run propels Potomac State to seep over Hornets

Keyser, WV- Pete Costigan hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a scoreless game to lead Potomac State to a 2-0 win over Shenandoah University on Sunday. 

Tied at zero in the sixth, Austin Chavis led off the inning with a double off the fence that nearly left the ballpark.  After a flyout Costigan drilled the pitch over the left field fence to give Potomac State the sweep.

Brandon Schaeffer delivered a complete game shutout striking out twelve to pick up the win.  The southpaw only allowed one runner to reach second base and improved his record to 4-1.

In game one PSC used a nine-run opening inning to cruise to a 14-8 win.

Austin Martin and Hayden Almond each drove in three runs apiece on a pair of hits.  Cole Miller was 2-2 with a pair of RBI’s.

Brett Whiteman worked the first four innings to garner the win.  The sophomore struck out nine including six of the first nine hitters.

Potomac State improves to 20-5 and will be home again tomorrow as they host Cecil College for a pair of games at noon.
