Catamounts' coach gets 100th win; Garrett splits contests

KEYSER, W.Va. — Breland Walton led three scorers in double figures with 17 points and Potomac State head coach Shawn White to his 100th coaching victory in a 78-61 victory over Hocking in junior college men’s basketball on Saturday.

Walton made seven field goals and 3 of 5 free throws in leading the Catamounts. Leondre Rogers scored 15 points and Calvin Wilder 12.

Jarrell Giles had a game-high 23 points for Hocking, of Newsome, Ohio.

 

Potomac State led 39-31 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 17-11 for a 56-42 lead.

The Catamounts (3-0), who beat Patrick Henry 72-71 on Sunday, play at Hagerstown on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Garrett 79, Hocking 67

KEYSER, W.Va. — Zakeem Davis and Elisha Kidd combined for 51 points to power Garrett past Hocking on Sunday at Potomac State.

Davis scored 26 points and also had six rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Lakers. Kidd, 11 for 13 from the field, had 25 points and four assists.

 

Kai Thompson added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Marin Lisica pulled in seven rebounds.

Garrett opened the year with a 74-66 loss to Patrick Henry on Saturday at Potomac State.

Davis had 26 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, and Kidd 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Garrett (1-1) hosts the McDonald’s Tip-off Classic on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Lakers play CCAC-Allegheny at 7 p.m., and on Saturday they play Penn Highlands at 4 p.m.
